For us wine must be made in the vineyards, from grapes that are perfect. And when the wine is well made it has to be the expression of its terroir and of its origins. We have here a terroir that allows us to do this. In Castagneto/Bolgheri this means the place where the land and the sea had met centuries ago, and where the light comes from not only one sun, but even two thanks to the special luminosity created by the reflection of the sun on the Tyrhenean Sea just a few kilometers away.
Essentially here we could just let Nature do its job to get perfect grapes. Something simple, but not so simple, we must add.
Conscious of the fact that the naturalness of our grapes depends on how we ourselves manage our land, our commitment and our work have been to return our vineyards to an ecosystem that is microbiologically active and self sustained. This means, to cultivate our vines relying less and less on chemical substances (even using sparingly the substances considered as biologically permissible like copper and sulfur); to return our soils to their natural living organic state and to enhance the biodiversity in our vineyards, such as to shift back to the vines their natural self defense capacities so they can grow on their own as much as possible the best grapes possible. Though all these efforts our objective is not to obtain the official approval and bio certification. Indeed we see our commitment for a sustainable wine more like a destination to be reached through trials and errors, with continous adjustments along the way in function of specific local needs and of eventual global climate changes. And we are doing this for us, for you our consumers, to conserve our lands for today and for tomorrow.
